November Newsletter 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We bring you warm greetings from Haiti, where your unwavering support continues to sustain and uplift us in challenging times. We extend heartfelt gratitude for your love, prayers, and dedication. While we rejoice in our faith and the hope we have in Christ, we also face immense struggles that we feel compelled to share with you.

Haiti, at this moment, is enduring unprecedented hardship. Economic instability has made life unbearably expensive for many, pushing already vulnerable families deeper into poverty. For the last five years, the southern region of Haiti has been without electricity. This makes even daily survival feel like an insurmountable challenge. Yet, we cling to our faith, believing in a sovereign God who sees and cares for His people. We also are struggling to recover from recent severe flooding.

As faithful supporters and our only means of support for Christian Mission South Haiti, we realize that we are proposing to you our “urgent” needs. We sincerely refer to them that way because these needs are so great. From your support we are able to do the blessed work that we do. At the same time, other immediate needs keep coming.

Or instance, as there has been no electricity since 2017, all our electrical sources must come from solar batteries. We are needing at least two, but really 12, to be able to run our computers, lights, and charge our phones. These service our church, school and the mission. We would like to request that a special Christmas offering be received to cover the cost of one battery. That cost is $2,130 in Haiti. It can be charged with the sun.

At the same time, the cost of everything has gone up. Food, medicine, fuel and office supplies are in short supply and very costly. The instability of our government and the gangs in Port-a-Prince and here in Les Cayes have taken a heavy toll on what is available and made everything very expensive.

There are some other needs that would greatly impact the effectiveness of our ministry. All of our ministers have transportation needs. For them, a motorcycle would be a great asset to their ministry. The costs vary from $1,600 to $2,000 depending on the size.

One of our most effective outreach tools was our radio transmitter. During the earthquake when our hospitality house was completely destroyed, along with it was our radio transmitter and equipment This enhanced our evangelistic outreach and opened up many contacts for our ministry. The cost of a radio transmitter is $2,500.

Every day, we deal with shortages of food and medicine. Our school is back ins session. That too is an important aspect of our ministry that involves food and supplies for the students and salary for our teachers. A bag of rice now costs $100. I have attached some pictures of our students at our chapel service.

WE are so sincerely grateful for you at this Thanksgiving season and as we head into the Christmas season, we ask that you consider a special offering for Christian Mission South Haiti. We genuinely value your support for us. You are the only lifeline to our work.

Blessings,

Jim Johnston, President of the Board
